Evaluation and Safety of Automated Transport Systems (ESTAS, leader E. El Koursi, staff of 10 research scientists, 8 technicians and engineers, 6 PhD students). The main objective of ESTAS is to promote the development of automation in public transport, especially in guided public transport systems. ESTAS has developed its research activities in two directions: Safety and Operation of automatic transport systems. Its research skills are recognized in these areas and have led to a third very important activity: expert assessments. ESTAS is mandated by the French ministry of transport to assess the safety of the new automated guided public transport system put into service in France.
