**PhD Positions in Operations Research at Maastricht University**

The Department of Quantitative Economics at Maastricht University, The Netherlands is looking for several PhD students in Operations Research.

The department consists of 3 research groups, namely Mathematical Economics & Game Theory, Econometrics, and Operations Research. The Operations Research group consists of currently 6 faculty members and some 5 PhD students. Our working language is English.

The PhD candidates will be expected to perform theoretical or experimental research in one or several of the areas: algorithmic game theory, approximation and online algorithms, auctions and mechanism design, and models for dealing with uncertainty in combinatorial optimization.
Possible research projects within this range could be: (1) Bidding support in complex auction environments, with applications in truckload transportation, (2) efficient iterative combinatorial auctions, (3) cost of anarchy models with transferable utilities, (4) decentralized scheduling, with applications in health care. Research is performed in teams with junior and senior faculty.

The successful candidates should have a degree in mathematics, computer science, or econometrics. A solid background in either discrete optimization or game theory is expected.

The appointment will be conform to the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities. In the first year, the candidate will participate in the education program offered by the Dutch Network on the Mathematics of Operations Research (LNMB).
