IMT Atlantique is an elite graduate school of engineering and an international research center which is under the authority of the Ministry of Industry and Digital Communication. As a result of the merger on 1 January 2017 of Télécom Bretagne and Mines Nantes, it is a school of the Institut Mines-Télécom (the leading group in France for studies and research in engineering and management, which includes 12 engineering institutes and 1 business school located throughout France).
Based on 3 different campuses (Brest, Rennes and Nantes), IMT Atlantique aims to combine energy and digital technology to transform society and industry through education, research and innovation in order to become an international reference in this area.
Each year, IMT Atlantique guides 2.300 students in engineering, masters of science and PhD programs. Its research activities, at the crossroads of the worlds of business and higher education, are lead by 290 researchers which produce 1000 publications each year and 18M € of contracts. Its courses are based on cutting-edge research performed in 6 joint research units : GEPEA, IRISA, LATIM, Lab-STICC, LS2N and SUBATECH.
SPECIFIC CONTEXT OF THE RECRUITEMENT
The LUSSI department of IMT Atlantique positions the human at the centre of its scientific and teaching activities, either through the assistance of decision makers (DECIDE team), social and economical models linked to the use of ICTs (ETIC team) or the human-computer interactions (IHSEV team). Operational research, and more precisely multicriteria decision aiding and preference modelling represent a structural axis of the department.
The incumbent will develop teaching modules in operational research in the various course tracks at engineering and master level, manage student projects and trainees, and will participate in the computer science teaching activities.
She/he will be integrated in the DECIDE research team (of the UMR 6285 Lab-STICC (CNRS laboratory), will participate in the R&D activities of the LUSSI department and will also get involved in the collaborative inter-team projects of the IMT Atlantique. More specifically, she/he will contribute to the development of algorithmic and methodological topics in multicriteria decision aiding (preference modelling, group decision making...), in application contexts related to geographical data, cyber-security, bank and insurance, health, and smart cities. She/he will also answer to national and international project calls and disseminate her/his findings via high level scientific publications and contribute to the diviz decision aiding ecosystem. Finally, the incumbent will also contribute to technological transfer actions, especially via industrial contracts (Thales, ARKEA, Engie, SHOM, etc.) or the creation of a start-up in the IMT Atlantique incubator.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Within the guidelines of training and research defined by IMT Atlantique, under the responsibility of the Head of Department, as part of a teaching and multidisciplinary research team and in close collaboration with the different divisions of the school, the incumbent:
- Provides, develops and coordinates courses (lectures, small classes, project supervision, … ) and teaching methods (face to face, project,…) in one or more disciplines of operational research and computer science, for a diverse audience (engineering students, master students,… ).
- Leads, develops and coordinates a research program in a team, in collaboration with internal partners (Institute IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), other departments) and / or external partners (institutional and companies).
- Contributes to the reputation of the school and the Institute IMT through presentations, conferences, scientific publications and through his (her) involvement in national and international networks in scientific and professional communities of the economic world.
- Obtains, through industrial contracts or project submissions, financial material and human resources to accomplish these tasks.
- Carries out the actions necessary to promote and develop scientifically and economically, the research results through innovation, transfer to businesses (intellectual property, know-how, expertise, entrepreneurship).
- Contributes to the dissemination of information on research in society, through popular science publications and presentations to the general public.
- May be required to coordinate or supervise the activity of one or more internal or external lecturers.
- Contributes to the collective smooth running of the school, incorporating the appropriate recommendations, rules and constraints.
- Contributes to collective missions: boards, promotional activities and communication, forums, cross- disciplinary working groups, decision-making or consultation groups.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Level of training and/or required experience
- PhD diploma or an engineering degree with experience in the field of operational research (section 27 of the CNU)
- or graduate from French “Grandes Ecoles” or equivalent with experience > 5 years
- or masters degree in operational research or equivalent with experience > 5 years

Necessary theoretical and technical knowledge for the position
- Theoretical and applied knowledge in operational research, and more specifically in multi-criteria decision aiding (preference modelling, group decision making …) are required. A first experience in a project linked to geographical data, cyber-security, health or banking would be an asset, as well as complementary skills in data mining and data analysis.
- Good development skills (R, Python …).
- Very good practice of English.
- Good experience in teaching.
- Knowledge of the ICT industry.
Observations
- Position based on the Brest campus.
- Travel in France and abroad is to be expected.
- Salary: depending on experience.
- Courses can be taught in English, French is not compulsory but would be an asset.
