Team Description
This internship will be hosted in Innovation and Research Division of Amadeus, in the team dedicated to Analysis and Researches. Scope of team works covers identification of business opportunities in Travel Industry whom Amadeus can add value and investigation of new solutions that fit to those new business needs. We specially focus in modeling and prototyping.
Subject
Amadeus proposes IT Solutions to distribute air tickets and to support Airlines in managing seat sales. Since early 2000's, Airlines have extended the sources of revenue on top of ticket fares to additional services associated to the travel experience. From booking time until flight departure, ancillary services, such as baggage, seating facilities, lounge access, special meals, etc, are offered to travellers. Business of ancillary services in Airline Industry has significantly grown from around 20 B$ in 2010 up to 50$ in 2014 overall!
On another hand, optimization of booking conversion given a set of travel alternatives is a central topic for Amadeus; meaning Amadeus capability in retrieving relevant travel solutions given the request. Chances to convert this request by a reservation through Amadeus System are then maximized. Display of packages including appropriate travel alternatives and relevant ancillary services would increase the conversion rate of Amadeus front-end applications of reservations. The relevant offer (seat + ancillaries) could be packaged on-line according to criteria of the request and analysis of customer behaviour in similar context. Context of the request such as point-of-sale, time-to-departure, leisure/business, etc, may be key input to determine customer profile and therefore preferred packages.
Objectives of this internship would be to investigate the problem of dynamic packaging leveraging on actual Airline ticketing data. Main directions for such investigation can be summarized as follows:
- analyse ancillary data of an Airline: volume, repartition...
- identify customer segments associated to ancillaries
- design a customer choice model
Ultimate goals for next steps of this project would be to prototype an engine which dynamically defines relevant packages given characteristics of the sell/availability request. Performance of such engine could be assessed in simulation environment.
