EURO – the Association of Operational Research Societies – is looking to appoint a
dynamic individual with a proven commitment to or demonstrable interest in Operational
Research / Management Science to fulfil the role of General Manager and Professional
Officer.
Salary in the range 33.000 €. To 41.000 €
The key responsibilities of the post are:
• The day to day management of the EURO Office, located in Brussels
• Support to the EURO Officers and Executive Committee who are
responsible for the operation of the organisation
• Support and advice to member societies, committees, working groups
and associated organisations
• Delivery of the services provided by EURO, in particular the website
• Management of the Society's prizes and awards
Further to the above, the individual appointed will be involved in a range of specific projects
and new initiatives according to their specific expertise. Recent projects have included:
redrafting of the EURO Statutes; organisation, classification and electronic capture of the
Society's archives; ...
Potential future projects might be: the development of social networking capabilities to
enhance communication between member societies and OR professionals; setting up an on-
line job placement scheme; development of materials to promote OR to young people
across Europe; ...
The person appointed will be supported by a part-time secretary and will work with the web
development team who are all based in Brussels.
Requirements for the post
Essential characteristics:
• Proven managerial / administrative ability
• Excellent level of IT literacy, including web skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Effective teamworking
• A degree or equivalent professional qualification
Desirable characteristics:
• Experience or knowledge of the role of company secretary
• Knowledge of OR, or a related discipline
• Knowledge and experience of European Community frameworks
The EURO office is located in Brussels and the job demands a regular, although not
necessarily full-time presence there. We are looking for someone with the ability and
enthusiasm to develop a vision for the development of the EURO office over the next 5
years and a commitment to remain with the Society in order to implement it.
We are interested to receive applicants from individuals at any stage of their career and
would be open to discuss the possibility of part-time working.
Salary will be dependent on experience and is expected to be in the range 33.000€. full time
equivalent (gross) for a recent graduate to 41.000€ for a recent doctorate. A higher salary
pro-rata may be payable to a more experienced person working part-time.
