Description du stage

  • Missions & objectives

VERI currently develops systematic modeling solutions for industrial parks in order, among other things, to determine material / energy synergies between different actors. The platform is based on a library of processes (exchangers, pumps, boilers ...) developed in Modelica language.

This topic is a major research challenge with many issues to solve. You will be involved in this project by proposing, developing and testing in specific real-world case studies, a generic, adaptive and robust  numerical optimization functionality which could be coupled with the existing Modelica framework. The module’s purpose is to provide the option to determine automatically and following pre-established criteria, the optimal synergies in given user-cases.

  • Principal missions

    • Understand, analyze and compare the modern model-based optimization algorithms and techniques.

    • Propose and develop an optimization solution adaptable to common industrial synergy problems and easily integrable within the existing Modelica framework.

    • Solve optimal-synergy case studies, compare and analyze obtained results.

    • Write notes and analysis reports, prepare and ensure presentation of results to different audiences (internal and external) and eventually abroad.

Profil recherché

  • Education

BAC +5/Master 2: Génie des Procédés/Industriel/Mathématiques Appliquées/Énergétiques

  • Skills

    • Good programming skills in Python (preferably), C++, Java and/or Matlab. Knowledge of Modelica language in addition is a considerable plus.

    • Preferably, experience in chemical/industrial process modeling and simulation in ProSim Plus, Aspen Plus/Hysys or similar.

    • Intermediate/advanced numerical optimization/operations research skills and experience. GAMS/AMPL or similar modeling experience is a considerable plus.

    • Written and oral English language knowledge is a must. French, Spanish and/or German knowledge is a considerable plus.

Qualities, know-how

  • You see the world with enthusiasm and you are ready to solve concrete problems using math. And innovation and the environment are your two passions! Your team spirit and your adaptability allow you to easily join a multidisciplinary project team.

  • You have a good logical sense and a strong analytical capacity. You know how to organize yourself in your work to achieve the objectives set.

  • Curious and critical, you also know how to listen to your contacts and communicate easily.
