CORE Postdoctoral Fellowship (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium)

The Center for Operations Research and Econometrics (CORE) of the Université Catholique de Louvain is offering postdoctoral fellowships, to start on September 1, 2017, in the following areas:

  • Economics and Game Theory, in particular: Industrial organization, Public economics, Political economy, Environmental economics, Welfare economics and social choice theory, General equilibrium, and Game theory;
  • Econometrics, in particular: Financial econometrics, Time Series econometrics, Complex data analysis and stochastic models, and Bayesian methods;
  • Operations Research, in particular: Linear, convex and nonlinear optimization, Discrete optimization, Modelling and solution of industrial economics problems, and Supply chain management;
  • Human and Economic Geography, in particular: Location-allocation models, Spatial data quantitative analyses, Transport geography in a sustainable mobility context, and Models in spatial analysis.

CORE members are interested in experienced researchers holding a doctoral degree (PhD) or having at least 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience.

Researchers have to fulfill the "mobility" requirement, i.e., have not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Belgium for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the start of the fellowship.

The position is offered for 12 to 24 months. It should normally start on September 1, 2017, and no later than November 30, 2017. Fellows are expected to publish their research results in the CORE Discussion Papers series, to present seminars at CORE and to interact with faculty and students in residence at CORE. A light contribution to doctoral level teaching might be requested.

Additional information

The net monthly allowance varies according to the experience of the fellow (average in 2016 for PhD holders with 2 years of work experience was above € 2,300/month). Benefits include health insurance and the costs of the trip from your host institution to CORE. Note that the CORE Secretariat will help you find accommodation. Also, a research budget of € 2,000 per academic year is also provided to cover professional travels and expenses.

Applications follow a two-step procedure.

1) Applicants are requested to send the following documents to core-fellows@uclouvain.be, by December 15, 2016:

  • CV (incl. degrees, current position, research interests, names of 3 referees)
  • Cover letter
  • Description of performed research
  • Research project
  • Description of future career path

2) A supervisor from the CORE faculty members will be assigned to the applicant. Selected applicants will then be asked to fill in a full application with the support of the designated supervisor by January 4, 2017.

An independent evaluation of the proposals will be conveyed. Applicants will receive notification of the result of the evaluation in the following months.
