3 PhD positions in Operations Research at KU Leuven + 1 joint SKEMA / Leuven position

Forum 'Emplois' - Sujet créé le 2023-02-08 par David Rey

The research group ORSTAT of KU Leuven (Belgium) has a vacancy for three full-time PhD scholarships starting in September 2023, each for a period of four years.  Additionally, there is also a vacancy for a full-time PhD scholarship in the framework of the joint KU Leuven - SKEMA doctoral program in AI & OM, in collaboration with SKEMA Business School (France).

The researchers to be hired will work in the field of operations research (OR); this work should lead to a PhD degree.  The supervisors of the positions are prof. Roel Leus, prof. Jannik Matuschke, and prof. Hande Yaman (KU Leuven positions), and prof. Roel Leus and prof. David Rey (joint SKEMA / Leuven position).  Some keywords of our research areas are: combinatorial optimization, integer (linear) programming, stochastic and robust optimization, algorithm design, game theory, ...  The candidates will find a dynamic and pleasant working environment in both universities, in groups that are actively involved in scientific research at the highest international level.

Candidates will be expected to participate in seminars and conferences, be internationally mobile and to enroll in our PhD program.  The candidate can be asked to give guidance to Bachelor and Master students, to be involved in teaching activities and to supervise exams.

Candidates should have a strong interest in OR and preferably hold a Master's degree in Business Engineering (Handelsingenieur), Mathematics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or equivalent.  Graduation with honors in preliminary studies is a requirement, as well as an appropriate command of written and spoken English.  Good knowledge of combinatorial optimization (algorithms, network and scheduling problems, mathematical programming, etc.) and/or strong programming skills are an asset.  Students that are currently in the final year of their Masters are especially encouraged to apply.

The tentative starting date is September 18, 2023, depending on the availability of the candidate.  You can apply for these jobs no later than March 8, 2023.  Applications can only be received via KU Leuven's online application tool, applications via any other way will not be considered.  When applying, you must upload a motivation letter and cv in pdf.  In the motivation letter you should specifically indicate why you are the right person for the vacant position.  You can also upload a publication list, photo and/or other attachments.
