Stochastic Optimization for Supply Chain Planning

Forum 'Stages' - Sujet créé le 2018-11-28 par Alexandre Dolgui

Work place: IMT Atlantique, Nantes. Laboratoires des Sciences du Numérique de Nantes (LS2N), team SLP.

Topic: Stochastic Optimization for Supply Chain Planning.

General scope: A Supply Chain Planning system (SCP) jointly optimizes procurement, inventory, and production decisions in the supply chain. A SCP helps to size the lots to produce and transport to minimize the operating costs. The problem solved by a SCP can be seen as the integration of the problems of lot sizing and distribution in a multi echelon supply chain. SCP is crucial for business competitiveness as it reduces production costs and increases the service level offered to the customers. SCP are often used in a situation where demand is uncertain, and the plan based on a deterministic optimization model is of poor quality. Therefore, stochastic optimization models must be used. Research topic: The intern will develop a stochastic optimization model for supply chain planning under uncertainties. The model will consider recourse actions such as overtime, discounts on the price, and express deliveries. The project has two goals. The first is to evaluate the impact of accounting for the recourses in the stochastic optimization model. The second is to propose and implement efficient (meta) heuristics to solve such a complex problem.
Possible collaboration: GERAD
Required skills: Knowledge of a programming language, knowledge of a linear programming solver, good English reading and writing skills. Knowledge in the one of the following topic would be a plus: supply chain management, stochastic optimization, heuristics.
