Columbia University Post-doctoral in Online Optimization for
Management Science Applications

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research
(IEOR) at Columbia University in New York City invites applications
for a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist position to research online
algorithms for solving information-rich models of important and
emerging applications in e-commerce, healthcare, and general services.

The landscape of businesses is quickly evolving with the growth of
information technology. Consumers are increasingly expecting more
convenient access, faster speed, higher quality, more customization
and more choices. Businesses are responding with innovative
services, formats, and greater personalization. As a result of
these adaptations, consumer transactions are becoming more
information- intensive than at any time in the past. The objective
of this post- doctoral position is to investigate adaptive
algorithms that can deliver efficient and high-quality results in
large-scale applications. The online framework will be used for the
design and analysis of these algorithms.

Candidates must have a PhD degree in Theoretical Computer Science,
Operations Research, or Pure and Applied Mathematics. Candidates
familiar with algorithm design, combinatorial optimization, convex
and stochastic optimization are highly preferred. Candidates will
also be expected to demonstrate exceptional ability in their field
of interest. They will have an outstanding research record
commensurate with their level of experience.

The candidate would work under the supervision of Professor Van-Anh
Truong. He or she will also benefit from interactions with faculty
from the IEOR Department, the Business School, and the Data
Science
Institute. This
is a one year position starting in Sep 1, 2017 or earlier, with
possibility
of
renewal for two more years depending on the progress achieved.

Candidates should send the following materials to Professor Van-Anh
Truong at vatruong@ieor.columbia.edu: curriculum-vitae, a copy of
their official degree transcript, and a representative research
paper. The applicants should also arrange to have three letters of
recommendation sent separately to the same address. The position
will remain open until filled and applications will be reviewed as
they are submitted.

Applicants can consult www.ieor.columbia.edu for more information
about the department.
