PhD Position in Operations Research/Multi-Objective Optimization
LINA and IRCCyN, University of Nantes and EMNantes School of Engineering, Nantes (France)
Period: 3 years starting in September 2007 or earlier
In the framework of the research project "MILES", the University and the "Ecole des Mines" of Nantes have an open position for Ph.D. studentship granted by the regional council "Pays de la Loire".
*** Area of research:
This is an exploratory research project which aims to investigate the integration of preferences in Multi-Objective Combinatorial Optimization.
*** Description of the project:
The subject covers Multi-Objective Combinatorial Optimization and Multi-Criteria Decision Making. The student will be asked to investigate on important issues on optimization problems where several objectives have to be taken into account. A common practice here is to provide the decision maker a set of non dominated solutions. When this approach is not satisfactory or not efficient it seems important to take the preferences of the Decision Maker into account to reduce the set of solutions and reduce the search space.
*** Candidat profil:
We are looking for an excellent and highly motivated candidate with a good Master degree (or equivalent) in Operations Research, Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering. A scientific background in combinatorial optimization, Multi-Objective Optimization and Multicriteria Decision Making is not mandatory but it is a strong advantage. She/he is expected to have good programming skills and an experience in software development. Knowledge of french is not a prerequisite for application. English could be the working language of research.
*** Laboratory of project:
LINA (Laboratoire d'Informatique de Nantes Atlantique, FRE CNRS 2729)
team ROOM: Operations Research and Multi-Objective Optimization,
http://lina.atlanstic.net/en/equipes/team11/index.html),
University of Nantes
and
IRCCyN (Institut de Recherche en Communications et Cybernétique de Nantes, UMR CNRS 6597)
team SLP: Production and Logistics Systems,

EMNantes School of Engineering.
Nantes, France
The PhD student will be supervised jointly by Xavier Gandibleux and Fabien Le Huede.
*** How to apply:
Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, and the names, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mails of three references to: preferably
Fabien Lehuédé (fabien [dot] lehuede [at] emn [dot] fr
or
Xavier Gandibleux (xavier [dot] gandibleux [at] univ-nantes [dot] fr)
