Postdoctoral Position for Australian Research Council Funded Project
"Maximizing Dimensional Efficiency With Minimal Cardinality Pattern Combinations"
********************************************************************** **
A Post-doctoral position in operations research related to the above project is available at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Applications are sought from candidates with expertise in the field of optimization, in particular discrete optimization.
Although these are the main areas of interest, ALL candidates with strong qualifications in optimization, operations research, systems and industrial engineering, or related fields of research are encouraged to apply and will be carefully considered.
The successful candidate will work with the ARC grant recipients Associate Professor Natashia Boland and Honorary Professorial Fellow Robert Johnston from the Operations Research Group of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Melbourne:
http://www.ms.unimelb.edu.au/Research/index.php?groupId=9
Travel support is available and no teaching duty is required, although candidates seeking to gain teaching experience will have opportunities to do so. Applicants should have a PhD degree or be close to completing it. The position is for a period ranging from 2 to 3 years. Preferred starting date is as soon as possible.
The work will focus on optimization problems where patterns or combinations are involved, such as arise, for example, in cancer radiation treatment time minimization, or in industrial cutting stock applications. The successful candidate will design and develop new mathematical models and algorithms for solving these problems, and implement these algorithms in computer software.
Applications (including curriculum vitae, list of any publications or conference presentations, names of referees with their e-mail addresses, and intended period of stay) should be sent, by email if possible, as soon as possible, to:
Professor Robert Johnston
